January 29 - Cruising the Pacific Ocean

We had an easy going day at sea with a talk on the China/US relationships and a forensic science case.  Paul attended a talk about an early woman flyer from Australia.  The presentation was by the author of the book about Jessie Miller, a woman who was a contemporary of Amelia Earhart.  Mary went to a presentation on gemstones by the designer of many of the fine pieces in the jewelry store on ship.  Based on the types of pieces he was talking about it is pretty clear that Mary can’t afford any of the pieces.

The show this evening was by Danny Elliott, an entertainer who plays just about every instrument known to man (or so it seems).  He played banjo, violin, piano, recorder, the penny whistle, harmonica, pan pipes and even the didgeridoo (the long wooden pipe instrument played by the Australian aborigines).

And he played them all well.  It was a most interesting and energetic performance.
